No New Posts times square ,

Times Square is one of the city's most famous landmarks, with millions of lights and dozens of shows. Times Square was named after the New York Times newspaper, which once had its headquarters there. The paper has since moved elsewhere, but the square has kept the famous moving headlines "Zipper" that the paper installed in 1928 to inform passersby of the latest news. Since 1907, Times Square has been the site of New Year's Eve ball drop, which signifies the beginning of the new year.

No New Posts fifth avenue ,

Forget London's Oxford Street and Paris' Champs-Élysées--you'll find your fix for all your fashion needs all right here on New York's premier shopping avenue. Spend the afternoon along NYC's Fifth Avenue and you'll get the ultimate taste of what life is like for Manhattan's rich and famous, plus, you'll have access to the City's most famous buildings and cultural icons, all right on one famous street. Known as one of the most expensive spots to shop in the world, Fifth Avenue's lavish reputation began after the Civil War, when many of New York's wealthy gradually moved their mansions up Fifth Avenue, giving the street its nickname, Millionaire's Row. Today, you'll find that Fifth Avenue is home to the most trendy names in fashion like Tiffany & Co., Lord & Taylor, Chanel, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, and more. Shopaholics and fashion buffs--its doesn't get much better than this. Yes, visitors will find plenty to do along Fifth Avenue, which is also where the Empire State Building is, as well as the New York Public Library and Rockefeller Center. You may also recognize the area in front of St Patrick's Cathedral as the site of the city's famous annual Easter Parade. There's also a stretch of Fifth Avenue (from 82nd to 105th Street) that's filled with museums, giving this portion of the Avenue it's another nickname-- Museum Mile. With cultural Meccas like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenhei, art lovers will be in heaven here too. So next time you're in the Big Apple, remember Fifth Avenue for the best in fashion and lots and lots of fun.

No New Posts central park ,

Situated in the middle of Manhattan, Central Park is an 843-acre oasis from the hustle and bustle of city life. Head above 72nd Street to enjoy the quieter areas of the park and to appreciate the park's exquisite landscaping. The park opened in 1873 and nearly four million trees and shrubs in Central Park were planted during its construction.

No New Posts lower east side , - 1 Viewing

Take a stroll through the city and see some of NYC's oldest synagogues while chomping on a hot deli knish and a crunchy pickle. Shop at trendy boutiques and check out the rockin' nightlife of some of NYC's up and coming bands. A classic blend of old and new often makes for the hippest places, and this is certainly the case with Manhattan's Lower East Side. Drop in at a famous kosher deli or bakery for a bialy or corned beef sandwich and make one of your stops Katz's. While here, don't miss one of New York City's most impressive museums, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, which is housed in a former tenement building and gives a glimpse into life in the neighborhood life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Music lovers will appreciate the Lower East Side as the neighborhood which was once home to music landmark CBGB, where some of the most famous figures in rock 'n roll (like Ramones and Blondie), played back in the day. Thank goodness, the same great nightlife still lives on, especially on weekends, at bars, restaurants and live music venues, which are filled with up and coming alternative rock bands and lesser known acts.

No New Posts chinatown ,

Listen up, bargain hunters, meanderers and wanderers: the streets of Chinatown are made just for you. This neighborhood of Manhattan is an ethnic enclave with the second most populous Chinatown in the Western Hemisphere and third in area size. Chinatown is actually home to a variety of immigrants, from China's Fujian province and Taiwan as well as Mandarin speakers from the interior provinces, some Vietnamese as well as Tibetans, Malaysians and Cambodians, making the ethnic flair here truly vibrant. The Asian-inspired building facades, with pagodas and tiled roofs and the narrow tenements will set the mood for your adventure right away. Let's not forget the amazing eats—including plenty of variety and delicious, affordable food, from Dim Sum, to Cantonese cuisine, congee and fresh seafood. Head to one of the small bakeries for a snack while here or try a Vietnamese restaurant for a large bowl of yummy beef soup noodles. Be sure to save room for dessert too—like the many flavors at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. As many of you know, this neighborhood is also known for its ample knock off handbags and watches, a big draw for fashion freaks. Finally, if you haven't had enough Chinatown, hop on one of the buses and check out Brooklyn's Chinatown for more delicious eats and more great deals.

No New Posts little italy ,

Once known for its large population of Italians, the lower Manhattan neighborhood changed as Italian Americans left the expensive Manhattan borough for other neighborhoods in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. The neighborhood called as Little Italy shrank and today, the section of Mulberry Street between Broome and Canal Streets, is the area that's still popular with tourists, and remains distinctly recognizable as Little Italy. ake a walk and smell the fresh baked bread, garlic and sauces where cafes, restaurants and bakeries line the street. Enjoy a glass of wine at a sidewalk cafe, or taste a salamis hanging from store window. For a real taste of Italian-American history stop in at Lombardi's, established as the first pizzeria in America in 1905 or hit Casa Bella where pasta and baking are all done in house, and serves reasonably priced pre-fixed dinners for large parties. The narrow, cobblestone streets beneath the fire escapes of turn-of-the-last-century tenements give you that old world feel no matter what you eat and it's fun to be amidst the sights, sounds and smells of Italian culture. The northern reaches of Little Italy, near Houston Street have been transformed into a fashion boutique-y neighborhood known as Nolita (an abbreviation for North of Little Italy) where shopping can be a whole lot of fun as well.

No New Posts battery park ,

Hop on down to one of New York City's oldest open public parks, historically called the "emerald doorstep of the metropolis." Manhattan's Battery Park is a cradle of New York history and a center of harbor access and cultural tourism.
Even if you haven't actually been here, you're sure to know the Battery from the show tune "New York, New York," which includes the line "and the Battery's down" (for its literal southerly location) or perhaps you know it from the Beastie Boys anthem, "Open Letter to NYC" which also mentions the Park. And if you don't know either, you're invited to come get to meet the famous Battery in person—its well worth the trip. Established in the 1600s by Dutch settlers, it encompasses 25 acres of waterfront parkland, with over 280,000 people working within walking distance. With its expansive lawns, shady trees, perennial gardens, and cultural events like open–air concerts in the summer, it's a huge draw to locals and visitors alike. In fact, over four million people from around the world visit Battery Park and its major landmark, Castle Clinton National Monument every year. Pier A at the north end of the park houses Hope Garden, a memorial to AIDS victims and at the other end is the delicious Battery Gardens restaurant. Many cultural institutions are also within walking distance of the Battery, such as the South Street Seaport, the New York Stock Exchange, the Museum of the American Indian, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, and the soon–to–be–opened Pier A visitor center, so there's no limit to the fun to be had, down on the Battery.

No New Posts greenwich village ,

Drop in for a visit to the capital of bohemian culture, well known for its artsy residents, cool shops and quaint cafes. Also home to the famous Washington Square Park, Manhattan's Greenwich Village is the perfect place to break away from the bustling city that surrounds and bask in the calm and cool energy of new ideas, and political, artistic and cultural diversity. Known more simply as "the Village," the large majority of this trendy New York neighborhood is home to upper middle class families despite its fame as the birthplace of the Beat Movement and avant-garde and alternative culture. Greenwich Village became hip way back when, through the small presses, art galleries, and experimental theater that thrived here, though its become a bit more commercialized in recent years. You'll find plenty of students here, too due to the presence of New York University (NYU), The New School. Perhaps the best thing to do here besides stroll around and enjoy a latte or herbal tea in one of the many cafes and people watch is spend the afternoon shopping in the mix of unique independently-owned shops as well as staples like the Gap and Virgin Records. Plus, don't forget to leave some time to relax in the sun under the shorter buildings which let the rays shine in or simply escape to one of the many secret courtyards and small gardens nestled between townhouses in the residential blocks of the groovy Greenwich Village.

No New Posts the bronx ,

The Bronx, the mainland continuation of the Manhattan landmass, comprised a significant portion of the area. A major component of its current population is comprised of descendants of the African Americans who arrived in the 1920s Great Migration from the South. Other ethnic groups, such as Puerto Ricans, also moved in to the Bronx in great numbers. The western side of the borough is more wooded and hilly, with a generally more affluent population.

No New Posts brooklyn ,

This borough is known for its many immigrant populations, which began arriving in the 19th century. Most of the immigrant groups that eventually settled here came via Manhattan, where they made some money after arriving from the Old World. Many people chose to move in groups to specific neighborhoods. As such, Boro Park and Crown Heights are primarily Jewish, Bensonhurst is mainly Italian, Flatlands has a strong West Indian flavor, and Sunset Park is mostly Latin American and Asian American.

No New Posts queens ,

Queens was established in 1683 as a county of the future state of New York. It is farther north and east than Brooklyn on Long Island. This geographic location gives it a more urban feel, similar to that of Brooklyn and the Bronx in their more western regions, and a less urban feel the more northeast you go. Queens also has large immigrant populations hailing from all over the world, with Greeks and Asian Americans, for example, especially favoring the northwest areas of the borough. Queens is the most ethnically diverse county in the United States.

No New Posts staten island ,

Staten Island, also known as the County of Richmond, is the least populated but fastest-growing of the five NYC boroughs. It also has the most homogenized population, being comprised of 44% Italians and 15% Irish, with the overwhelming remainder being either African American or Anglo-Saxon. Called the “forgotten borough,” and not even connected to any other New York City borough until 1965, Staten Island contains more parkland than any of others.
